Oscar fever starts now!
The biggest night in the movie calendar may still be several months away, but that hasn’t stopped the speculation about who will walk away with one of the prestigious statues. Most of the top tipped films haven’t made it to the UK yet, so I’m not sure who will have to worry about whether their mascara is tear-proof on the big night, but having seen a clip of Meryl Streep’s uncanny portrayal of Maggie Thatcher in “The Iron Lady”, she has to be worth a flutter!
Of course, the other way to get noticed on Oscar night if you have no chance of winning an award is to wear either something utterly fabulous or something utterly wacky on the red carpet. Remember Bjork’s swan dress from a few years ago? Everyone does. Who knows what Lady Gaga will wear to the most high-profile event of the year, but surely even she can’t top the meat dress from the VMAs. Fashionistas will be analysing every red carpet between now and Oscar night to see what’s on trend and magazines seem to devote as many column inches to predicting who will be wearing what as they do to who will be winning what!
It was the International Emmys this week, an early chance to get a glimpse of what we can expect from the Oscars red carpet next year. The big trend this year seems to be try and turn up in something as close in colour to the carpet itself as possible! Kate Winslet pulled it off and looked as effortlessly gorgeous as ever in the popular young designer Elie Saab. But it was Lady Gaga who again stole the show in a black dress revealingly slit to reveal pale and interesting thighs, looking more like one of those Dal Negro backgammon sets than a healthy woman now she’s lost a few pounds. Let’s hope she has a Plan B for Oscar’s night!
